Scottmoore’s Internship Program is a paid, part-time, year-round opportunity that provides a 100% real-world work experience for students early in their career. The ideal candidate should be ready to apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate project support, problem-solving, and communication skills. 

As an Architectural Student Intern, the candidate will work collaboratively with design architects, project architects, and project managers to assist in all aspects of the building design process, including preparation of presentation materials, schematic designs, design development, and contract documents using Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Enrollment in a NAAB-accredited architecture or compatible program.

  • Basic knowledge of the architectural design and documentation process. 

  • Basic knowledge of architectural building systems.

  •  Basic knowledge of sustainability and other trends in the design/construction industry.

  • Basic knowledge of applicable codes (and willingness to learn) 

  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, sustainability, universal design, and other trends in the design and construction industry.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including preparing and performing presentations.

  • Knowledge of SketchUp, Revit/AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign are required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred.

Infill Neighborhood Development - Design Internship

AJL LLC is a Northwest Florida based real estate acquisition and development entity looking for an architecture intern for the Spring semester for immediate hire. The intern will conduct desk research and deliver sketches, drawings, and renderings to support the design exploration and conceptual design development process for an infill affordable housing development of up to 100 units in an existing residential neighborhood in Pensacola.

In the exploration phase, the intern will become familiar with the history of the neighborhood and the site, and will utilize a previously conducted zoning analysis of the neighborhood and desk research on small scale (2-5 acre) residential developments.   A range of potential options and urban design typologies are under consideration - from tracts of single family residences to creative configurations of “missing middle” housing units (e.g. duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes).   

In the concept design phase, the intern will produce 3 sub-division design concepts.

The intern will work closely with the landowner/developer utilizing insights and inputs from other professionals who have been retained on the project including a local civil engineer and land use attorney.  

Ideal candidates should be able to present a working portfolio of relevant projects.  Experience and access of CAD (computer-assisted design) software is required. Lumion, Enscape, Revit, Rhino, and Sketchup are preferred.

The intern should be available for virtual consultations via Zoom for an initial briefing, and for at least one site visit to Pensacola.  

This is a unique opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in affordable housing and community development to build their portfolios, expand their network, and gain exposure as this conceptual design work will form the basis of a package to be presented to potential investors, lenders, local affordable housing partners as well as municipal stakeholders and local media.

Selection Process

Timeline

Work will commence immediately upon execution of a short letter agreement and a non-disclosure agreement, and will be completed by April 15th in accordance with the following milestones:

By March 1st - Initial Exploration Phase complete

By April 1st - Initial Design concepts complete and submitted for review

By April 15th - Concepts finalized    

Compensation

The intern will be compensated at $15/hour for up to 100 hours of work.  Travel will be compensated on a $50/per diem basis with mileage reimbursed at $0.60/mile.

Economic Development Manager - Louisiana Bucket Brigade

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:  Economic Development Manager

SALARY:  $70,000/yr

LOCATION:  River Parishes – St. John, St. Charles, St. James or Ascension. This person will travel to meetings as necessary in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and elsewhere in the region.

HOURS:  Full Time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This work will be done within the framework of our three identified opportunities in the fields of renewable energy, cultural resources and government relations. Other opportunities in emerging fields with economic potential (for example, marijuana, hemp and other emerging agricultural industries) will be included.

1. Research and program development

a. Research and provide exemplars of economic development models that could be implemented in the River Parishes
b. Conduct demographic and asset analysis of the area of focus
c. Conduct a feasibility study of various community advocacy projects, including buying Formosa land, clean energy ideas, cooperatively owned businesses
d. Create materials, presentations, collateral to share with local officials, stakeholders, and funders to spur economic development 

2. Community engagement

a. Maintain relationships with Louisiana Bucket Brigade community partners
b. Identify Urban Planning Firms for visioning sessions
c. Collaborate with community members to plan and implement visioning sessions
d. Collaborate with community partners to conduct a review of assets and needs in their districts
e. Develop relationships within each parish (for example, River Parish Community College) to create opportunities

3. Cultural resources

a. Collaborate with community partners to identify and advertise Black-owned businesses and points of interest
b. Collaborate with Louisiana Bucket Brigade staff to identify cultural economy possibilities

4. Government relations

a. Develop and maintain relationships with parish officials, including council members, planning commission members, economic development committees and staff
b. Collaborate with community partners to ensure parish government is providing equal services
c. Coordinate with designated partners to understand opportunities for federal and state funding
d. Assist parish staff in applying for such funding
e. Understand the use of Opportunity Zones and Enterprise Zones in target areas
f. Research and understand parish zoning and land use plans

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Must reside in the River Parishes

  • Seven or more years experience leading successful economic and business development initiaves, and/or business/industry attraction, retention and expansion programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Ability to travel locally and regionally

  • Self-starter with a track record of creating successful programs

  • Interest in and ability to connect with people in the River Parishes

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude

  • Builds strong relationships with partners and stakeholders

  • Shares knowledge and experience and actively works towards continuing personal learning and development

Requirements

The Role:

The Project Manager will organize, manage, and plan complex projects for the organization’s research, development, and product implementation efforts.  In addition, this person will is responsible for creating, updating and coordinating project schedules while working closely with team leaders to build, evaluate and optimize project schedules.


Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the project team to develop, maintain and manage the project schedule

  • Outlines the tasks involved in the project, works collaboratively with the team

  • Ensure that all projects are being scheduled and forecast using a consistent methodology

  • Provide schedule analysis and metrics to key stakeholders on a regular basis

  • Conducts cost analysis, estimating expected costs for the project

  • Acts as a liaison between company, customers, and vendors

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices

  • Performs other related duties as assigned
