Infill Neighborhood Development - Design Internship
AJL LLC is a Northwest Florida based real estate acquisition and development entity looking for an architecture intern for the Spring semester for immediate hire. The intern will conduct desk research and deliver sketches, drawings, and renderings to support the design exploration and conceptual design development process for an infill affordable housing development of up to 100 units in an existing residential neighborhood in Pensacola.
In the exploration phase, the intern will become familiar with the history of the neighborhood and the site, and will utilize a previously conducted zoning analysis of the neighborhood and desk research on small scale (2-5 acre) residential developments. A range of potential options and urban design typologies are under consideration - from tracts of single family residences to creative configurations of “missing middle” housing units (e.g. duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes).
In the concept design phase, the intern will produce 3 sub-division design concepts.
The intern will work closely with the landowner/developer utilizing insights and inputs from other professionals who have been retained on the project including a local civil engineer and land use attorney.
Ideal candidates should be able to present a working portfolio of relevant projects. Experience and access of CAD (computer-assisted design) software is required. Lumion, Enscape, Revit, Rhino, and Sketchup are preferred.
The intern should be available for virtual consultations via Zoom for an initial briefing, and for at least one site visit to Pensacola.
This is a unique opportunity for an undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in affordable housing and community development to build their portfolios, expand their network, and gain exposure as this conceptual design work will form the basis of a package to be presented to potential investors, lenders, local affordable housing partners as well as municipal stakeholders and local media.
